Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! Since you have a rooster, I would recommend a switch to All Flock or Flock Raiser feed and offer oyster shell on the side. I know you don't have to offer grit if you free range, but I do because I'm not convinced their is any little rocks in my orchard where they range. I wouldn't throw out what you have but mix the two foods together until you run out of the old and then make the switch.
Thank you so much

I inherited some chickens from granddaughters project. I feed them scratch mixed with layena and oyster shell but read that scratch is insufficient to fee my chickens. I have 5,a rooster and 4 hens all approximately 1 1/2 years old. We have 3 acres and they pretty well free range but want to know what kind of feed to feed them. I am 78 and still garden some so they really enjoyed my tomato plants. I used to do rescues taking in and fostering dogs and cats but it got too much as I am
"getting" older. Still have 3 dogs and multiple cats that call this place home. They as well as the chickens all get along really well especially since the 4 legged one fear the fly swatter. Any help you can give me on the correct feed would be appreciated. They were laying eggs regularly until this last cold snap.
Good Morning & Welcome to BYC!
I too am having a time with my ladies in the garden. We let them out in the evenings for a bit to free range. I planted some new vegetables and with Broccoli being one of them they have devoured that plant. I told my husband he had to watch the girls as they act as though they are helping but using it as a slide into the garden, LOL. i was working the garden and had to constantly stop to fuss at them they look at me like I'm crazy and walk around me.
Didn't think I needed to invest in a fence but I know he is NOT going to watch them. I have a hard time and I am watching them. Now to plant MORE broccoli!

Thank you...we got a fense around our plants but they just flit over it so my son says when they get around to shoo them off, but with it being 22 degrees outside don't imagine I have anything not frozen. Picked most of it the weekend. Good luck
