Hi everyone. My wife and I just joined BYC. We live in NW Iowa. With our three daughters grown and on their own, we were longing to get some chickens. Although our 4 dogs keep us plenty entertained, we thought chickens might be fun. Last June, 2020, I built a coop and put up wire fencing for the anticipated arrival of our 7 female pullets. I picked them up at the post office and the fun began! As they grew we noticed that our Americauna had a strong desire to cockadoodledo! So, HE, was re-homed. So, we have three silver laced Wyandots, a buff Orpington, a Speckled Sussex, and a Light Brahma. At about 30 weeks old they are putting out all the eggs we need and then some. They’ve become quite friendly and like to sit with us. We are enjoying this new journey far more than we thought we might! So, we are here to continue learning as much as we can about raising our girls, each one was named by our grandkids, and keeping them healthy and safe.
