I am new to chickens and just received my new chicks 4 days ago. I did try to prepare and read up on them and I built a hen house because it didn't look like there were a lot for sale to had good ratings.

I have 4 what are supposed to be blue orpingtons. they are 4 different colors as chicks though so I am not sure what I am going to end up with. Silver, black and silver, one that is more silver than black, and even a brown one. Some of their feathers are coming in though and even the brown one has shades of black in them so we will see. Hoping for at least one solid blue orpington.

Joined BYC to hopefully get some good info. So far I am really lovin having the chicks around. I think it is only going to get better from here.

Sounds to me like you might have gotten some awesome chicks.

I'm not sure on the brown chick(I would have to see some pictures to help you with that one.)

The color blue doesn't breed true in chickens so a blue bird crossed with a blue will give you
50% blue 25% black and 25% splash.

You can find a lot more information about that on BYC.

My guess is you have some blue some black and some splash chicks.

There's also different shades of blue. So dark blue and lighter blues.

Be excited for your babies and to see how they differ as they grow. Look into the colors I think you'll really like the different colors. :)
