New Mini Colt (horse)

Sorry, I tried to take a few pics the other day, and couldn't get him in the right light. I did put the halter on him (I ordered a mini xs and it is way too big, but it will do to hold him) put a lead on him, got him used to the rope. His respitory issues seem cleared up for now, which is a relief, never had a sick baby horse before was scary. Need to work on pics!

Thanks everyone! Indy is doing well, here are some pics from yesterday, he is eating out of mom's food, so need to start giving him his own pan now. I know he looks parrotmouthed in the second pic, he isn't, just playing with food. When do they usually get their feet trimmed for first time? Never had a foal before and his seemed long at birth!

we usually have o urs trimmed around 3 weeks old. some need just a rasping, some need a full trim its good to start them out early!!

and if you decide you would like a rope halter, we make them for mini foals! :) pm me for more info!

I start mine on the first day. When I first touch them, I rub my rasp all over them and tap and slide it across the bottom of each foot. Then on farrier day they get added to the rotation. A lot of farriers charge extra for foals because the owners don't teach them ahead of time. They expect the farrier to do it. All of mine get short foot lessons a few times a day. So my guy charges me less for my baby's trims. As a yearling mine stand ground tied and all you do is stand next to the foot you want and say foot and the horse will pick it up for him to trim.
