New Project "Road to Ok" Quilt for My Bed (Top Finished!)

Well, this one is for my own bed, so guess I'll do whatever I can live with, LOL. If some red is a bit darker than the other, maybe it won't make much difference in the entire scheme of things.

About the pillow tuck part-was thinking of doing more Road to Oklahoma blocks and setting them in a row across the top of the quilt then would run a plain border all the way around the quilt to incorporate the pillow tuck area. I still need to add some length and width to the quilt before I worry too much about that part, though.

If you are planning at some point to make the quilt more rectangle than square, you could do it now. Do the sides with the red and green checked blocks and the top and bottom row in the new green homespun and wider than the side borders.. Or the other way around. Maybe save your star blocks for the next row.

The difference in reds may not be as apparent once the quilt is on the bed...lighting etc.

In my art classes, we would use salt or vinegar to set a color. Perhaps try a square in water with a little baking soda to see the reaction.

Your idea about incorporating the pillow tuck brings a nice picture to mind....sounds like a great idea. Will the actual tuck be a solid stripe since it won't be seen? This would put the stars on the pillow tops....thinking, thinking.....

Yes, I think there will be a border/stripe/something that actually is the tucked-in part. And you could be right about the color difference not really showing up as much as it does when one fabric is right on top of the other. When I first got the Homespun red, that sucker bled and bled and bled and finally, I did set it with a rinse in vinegar/salt water. This one I bought today didn't bleed quite as much as the first one I bought, though it came off the same bolt, I believe. I may just go ahead and finish this border so I can get on with making a rectangle by adding onto the bottom somehow, then I'll start on the pillow part. I appreciate all the input!

I still have some of my original red. If I pair the old red squares with new green fabric and intersperse the few old colors with the newer fabric I got yesterday, it may not be obvious at all, really; if I put every bit of the new green and red together in one location, it might be more obvious. It's rainy, cold and very windy here today, so I suspect there will be progress to show by the end of the day.
