Hi,
I bought 4 8 wk old pullets and they're doing great. I add 4 more from a different source a week later. I had them in the garage with no heat but they all got along and huddled for the night.
Morning One: one gal from 2nd batch acting dumpy, squinting one eye. I flushed it with saline solution, put neomycin & polymyxin B in her eye, separated her and put a light on her. She perked up. Figured she was cold.
Put a light in with the others as well. All seemed to be doing fine the following day. They sleep in a doghouse heavily bedded down in the garage. No drafts. There is not a light in the doghouse but I leave the light on in the pen should they want to warm up. This morning I picked them up and they were very toasty.
Morning Three: a second gal from the 2nd batch is now acting dumpy, eye squinting. I moved her over with the other one.
The first batch was kept outside in a run. The second batch was kept inside, lots of lights, lots of bedding. I'm thinking that the second batch just isn't as hardy as the first because they lived such a privileged life. Should I continue putting the Neomycin in their eyes? OR if I need to put something else please tell me what & where to find it. Should I bring them in the house for a few days?
They have no nasal discharge, are breathing fine, and I have not seen any of them picking on each other. Thanks for any insight you can give me.
