The breeder shows them, she doesn't actually hunt with then haha.
I just assumed working line because I've never seen anyone hunt with show line retrievers lol
most everyone else that I know that hunts with them has working line
But, they do great as duck hunting dogs, and really love it!
I'm sure they're great at it! Any pictures of your past ones while hunting?

Make sure she is 2 years old, with her OFA's and genetic testing. Same for the stud. And approval from your breeder. A mentor would help, too. If this is your first time
Yep, yep and yep. We'll get Eyes, hips, and elbow certification all done, and the stud will be a non related dog through Dianne Sullavin, the head of the Cedarwoods bloodline. She gets all the certification done as well, and is very responsible. My dad grew breeding and showing his dogs and doing all the certifications etc. So we have some experience.
I've never done it though, and am very excited! It makes it not so sad for her to grow up, since we'll get to breed her when she's older. We'll definitely wait until she's at least 2, definitely not younger then that.

I'll look at them tomorrow. Are they show line cross working?
Ya, Dianne doesn't hunt, but other people who breed with her bloodline do. It's a cross i'de say.
Pearl, our old lady who passed a year ago, looked totally English. Broad chest, shorter snout. Comet on the other hand acts and looks more like a fieldworker type, even though he's the same bloodline.

Oh ok that's great!!
I was going into it expecting you to have a 'breeding for fun' attitude. I'm glad that you guys are taking all of the proper steps to breed her!

I'm sure he will! I'm starting with work to get his CGC, and I'm going to use that as a lead in for therapy work. Once he passes a therapy dog test, I'm going to try to get him involved at the many nursing homes, hospitals, and libraries near us.
That is so cool! I wanted to do that with Comet, but never pursued it with him once I released I would actually have to take him consistently to a nursing home lol! I just wanted to be able to put a Service dog harness on him, and take him places lol! :gig:oops:

I really hope that agility works out!! It always makes me happy to see dogs other than border collies doing agility (Nothing against BCs, but it gets boring to always see the same dogs lol) and I'm pretty psyched that we've got a potential agility dog. We looked at bernese mountain dogs for a second (I would DIE for one) and if we had gotten one, I would have done draft.
Ya, Border Collies really are the lead of the agility world. Its nice to see the sport expanding to other breeds.
Thats really cool! I love to see people training their dogs for specific purposes, and accomplishing their goals. 70% of people don't train their dogs, and yank then around on a pinch collar their whole lives because the dog won't listen. Then lock them in a crate when they can't be with them. A lot of people aren't that bad, but just have no time to be with the dog, and it spends 50% of its life in a crate thats to small.
I'm so happy to see more dog owners who know what they're doing, and have working rolls for their dogs! 😊

Service dogs are very different from therapy dogs. Service dogs are specially trained to perform tasks and/or give medical help (example: dogs who warn of oncoming seizures) for their owners, and are in many cases required for the owner to go throughout their day without major trouble. These dogs have the right to accompany their owners anywhere. Therapy dogs are only trained in what would probably be considered advanced good manners- the next level of household obedience, basically. This advanced level of obedience (+ a therapy dog certification) allows them to schedule visits to nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and libraries to provide comfort to those there. They do not have the right to accompany their owners anywhere, and they are not required for their owners to function.

Thats illegal and abelist FYI
I know, I wouldn't do that without having an actual purpose for the harness. That was 5 years ago, (I was much younger) and liked the idea of being able to take him places.
Again, I never pursued it because I didn't think I was going to want to pursue the effort of going to the nursing homes, hence not putting the harness on him and taking him places. :D

Yes, that makes perfect sense to me, and I learned that when I first though of the idea of training him. Of course, I didn't realize the full extent of it and didn't pursue it.
Finn is going to make a fantastic therapy dog, and do a great job. 🥰 Goldens are so great at it, and he is such a sweet guy who has so much potential. Comet prefers duck hunting and trail rides.:)
