Hello from Nebraska!

I'm not necessarily new to chickens, I grew up on a farm, and live on one now, but I am new to breeding and genetics. I've been a lurker here at BYC for years, but now that I have some really specific questions, I've created an account.

I currently have a mixed production flock of 17, year-old, hens. These ladies are several breeds, including Buff Orpingtons, Black Sex Lincs, and leghorns, but the majority are hatchery cuckoo Marans that lay no darker than a three. I was very disappointed with them, and this has led me to breeding my own, higher quality birds. I have been hatching shipped eggs since November 2017, and I'm looking forward to breeding. I currently have Black Copper and Splash Marans, Silver Crested Cream Legbars, Ice Cream Bars, and Bielefelders, then I hope to use my best hens from my current production flock to make Olive eggers of varying shades. (I'll not be breeding my cuckoo Marans)

Aside from chickens, our farm raises plants, produce, pork, and we'll be opening a small pumpkin patch soon. Personally, I love to write fiction.

It's nice to meet everyone!
