New to chickens & forums!!

Have you seen the chicks passing actual worms? It's best to have a vet check a stool sample. Wormers are pretty harsh on their system. Best to only worm when necessary and with the right product for the type of worms.
Thanks drumstick diva. It was definatly a sticky stool and it was a long worm about 2cm, white and it moved I'm sure it was a tapeworm.

I've read about the other chick and feel it may have gapeworm. As it has the characteristics of that. They say gapeworm stops the chick from breathing. First time chicks so I just a bit worried I think.

Tape worms are segmented . A long, white worm is likely to be roundworm but, without a photo that's just a guess. Do you have a vet who could check the stool for worms/what kind/what produce to use as a wormer?

To check for gapeworm gently wipe a moistened cotton swab at the back of the throat. If gapeworms are present there, you will find little reddish threads on the swap.

Ok thank you so much for the help. Can I use a cotton swab on a very young chick too. Would that be ok.
I wish I had taken a picture of the worm.
I will try and see what happens.
thank you.

Maybe not on a very young chicks, I'm afraid they might fight the attempt and in doing so be injured by the cotton swab.
Thank you. I am thinking I done a wrong move by purchasing them from a home Hatcher who seemed to have a lot of people getting them from him. Hopefully the remaining 9 will be ok and I can bring them up to be very happy chicks.

Hope everything works out for you. Remember though BYC is here for you 24/7
Thank you.
I'm now wondering if it would be worth my time getting these chicks vaccinated. I read that most vets wont do it because it costs too much and not enough people get them done.
I think I will speak to the vets to find out what's best.
