new to chickens in Wv

Hi I am Neva. i am getting chicks in July. 10 hens of various breeds.. I am having a shed delivered for the coop( 8x12 )because i am a believer in chicken math! will be adding a fenced area for ranging of about 24x16 to start. an 8 ft square are roofed for exterior feeding. i am planning on deep litter method. having a poop board with sand and no electricity. possibly adding solar later. i am struggling with what to do about the brooder. i have no extra bed rooms but i do have a basement. i also have 4 cats and dogs so it has to be sturdy.. for 10 chicks how much room will they need to last for entire brooding time? thanks!

Hello and I hope you find the site useful and enjoyable. I’d allow a minimum of half a square foot per bird in the brooder for the first 3 weeks, then 2.5sq ft for large fowl up to 8 weeks
