New to Chickens

I hope to start raising chickens next spring when my house is done on my new 5 acres in the country. Will be reading up on all aspects so I have some background before I start.

Welcome to BYC! Hope you like the community and take to it instantly. When you get chicks, I’d recommend golden comets. There are plenty of articles here that could tell you more than enough about caring for chicks!

Welcome to BYC! You are approaching this the right way by learning as much as possible before bringing animals under your care. They will benefit from the effort. Do a lot of reading and feel free to ask questions here. People are friendly and will be happy to help.
:thumbsup

Edit: You might want to put your approximate location here. That will help with answering some of your questions.

Congrats on acquiring some nice property! Once you decide your "chicken goals" whether they be for eggs or meat, breeding or just fun, you can start building your coop and run.

Hello, Denise, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
It's smart of you to learn everything you can before getting chickens. Many just come home with chicks then scramble to get a coop and run up or make terrible mistakes with their chickens that cost them their lives.
