New to Chickens

Usually the babies are a bit more accepting, as they haven't really started with an order yet. Mine saved that sort of behavior for the great outdoors. There is a risk of certain diseases that the older chicks have built some immunity to that the younger ones haven't yet though.
You'll see once you have them that just a couple weeks will make a pretty big size difference, as well as the temperature they need to be kept. I think I would probably be prepared with 2 separate brooders for them.

Babies are here! I came home with more than I originally pre-paid for. LOL
I now have 16 pullets: 2 Barred Rock, 2 Speckled Sussex, 3 Cream Legbars, 4 Ameraucana, 2 Barnevelder, and 3 Blue Australorp.

I'm possibly going to add a couple Java's, Langshan, Maran in a couple weeks. We'll see. :)

I've been reading up on other heating options, and am probably going to do away with the heat lamp and go with radiant heat panel/pad type setup.

I'm ok if one or two end up as roosters, as long as the flock all gets along. I do want a rooster.

How many hens per rooster do I need to look for, if more than one turns out to be a roo?
I'd prefer just one Roo, but I know I'd have a hard time letting go of any extra (unless they're just flat out jerks LOL)

I plan on setting up a brooder in a separate section of the coop, and an area for the juveniles as a half way area before integrating into the flock.
This batch will stay in my house until they're ready for the coop. That will give me time to get the coop and enclosed run ready for them.
