Hello there! I’m brand new to chickens. We have 26 chicks total and they’re a week old yesterday. We have 12 Red Star Sexlink hens, 5 Whiting True Blue hens (ordered 6 but one died), 8 Whiting True Green hens, and one free cute little gray unidentifiable mystery chick! I’m hoping at least one is a rooster.
We’ll be free ranging in a mobile coop and rotating them behind our cattle. I think we have 24 head of cattle. And two outside cats.
I’m a stay at home, homeschooling mom to two kids, 8.5 year old boy and 6 year old girl.
I wanted to get into chicken rearing so we can have fresh farm raised eggs. Right now I buy them from a lady at church when I can. I figured it would be a good learning experience for me and the kids and why not put the land to work for us more. 🐣
I also like to read and crochet.
Here is a pic of our free gray chick and one of the whiting True Blues (I think).
Some of them are chunking you nicely and a couple, who have hurt legs) are a bit smaller.

Welcome to "The Flock"! Your chicks are adorable! 26 chickens, wow! That's more than me!
My husband wanted me to start with 12 but if I’m paying extra $ for a small order fee, I want to get that in chickens. I assume we’ll lose some in the free range process. Hopefully not but I’m trying to be realistic. It’s like having 26 newborns. It’s sort of exhausting. 😂
