Thank you for letting me join! I do not have any chickens yet but my coop is being built as I write. I am just reading and searching for all the info on raising chickens that I can find. I know someone that has Wyandotte chickens, so I was thinking on getting them. I hear they are friendly and hardy for cold weather. Right now I have 4 dogs and a cat. Three of them were rescues,1 was my foster failure!!! We just moved to a home with 4 acres and am looking forwards to having more animals. I have always wanted to have a farm sense I was very young. I have had a lot of pets growing up..dogs ,cats, birds, rats ,hamsters ,raccoons and a goat we babysat for a few months. So thanks again for letting me join and I hope to learn a lot and get started very soon!

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Good luck building your coop and preparing for your flock. Yes, wyandottes are generally friendly and social. They are great layers and beautiful birds. They can be a aggressive sometimes. (Just a warning.) You may also want to check out australorps, EEs, Barred rocks and buff Orpingtons. These are all very friendly breeds who lay well.

Be sure to also check out the links attached.

Again feel free to ask any questions and welcome to the community!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new home and Good Luck with your chicken project! Mountain Peeps gave you plenty of good links to check out about owning chickens!

Welcome to the flock. Please keep dogs and chickens apart. Every day on here we learn about someone's dog killing their flock. You never hear about chickens killing a dog.
