I have my eggs in the incubator next to my bed

1 out of 4 has pecked a hole that I noticed around 14hours ago. How long before you give them a helping hand ??
Also I bought a brooding box which came with food. Do I need to soak the food and do I give them water ??
Thanks in advance Dando

I generally wait 24 hrs. They can eat dry chick starter and put some marbles in the waterer so they don't drown. Dip their beaks in the water when you put them in the brooder. Have the food and water the opposite end to the heat. I use puppy pads and sprinkle some food on it and they will find it.

I use the mama heating pad to brood.

Congratulations!!! I've started a new set of eggs. I'm on day 3, low temperature killed my first attempt.
I'm sorry drabbits!:hugs I started another clutch as well. I'm doing dry incubation on this batch to see how it goes. Day 4 on the new clutch andday 22 now for the first! Hopefully, we'll both get bunches of babies!:fl

Well, Danster, you took the words right out of my mouth! Though I didn't dip their beak in the water. I chirped as I touched the water with my finger. Seemed to work. Though the first chick decided she wanted to be inside the water dish to drink! I think it changed it's mind though! Lol! The bowl I gave them is shorter than they are, so I don't have to worry about drowned chicks, thankfully! Good luck on everyones expected hatches! I did notice something about these chicks, which were incubated, compared to the ones hatched under a broody, these are smaller! Anyone else have the same thing?

My chick hasn't made any more progress with breaking out of the egg, should I help its been over 24 hours now ??

I would... I had to help about 4 chicks in my last hatch. I'm glad I did, as during my 1st hatch I didn't help and had 1 die in the shell, fully developed, just didn't get all the way out.

Just be very careful. If you see blood, stop and wait.

Little bits at a time, I used a heating pad on my lap and tweezers to slowly pull small sections of shell away until the chick could push themselves out of the main part of the shell.
