My poor girl has had a time adjusting to laying her eggs, she started Wednesday or so I believe, and they've come pretty fast and furious since then.
The last egg was clearly uncomfortable and I could hear her whining softly (best way I can describe it) moments before the little egg came out. Then she stood quietly and rather wide eyed, reluctant to move about for a few minutes. I'm pretty sure it's hurting her and that saddens me. I was just wondering how long it will take her to adjust to laying her eggs, and get the hang of it?

That is my main question, but I also wanted to check one other thing. The egg in question from this morning has a somewhat wrinkled top, I did some looking up but I doubt any of the usual causes are to blame. Could this just be due to being new to laying?

also before I forget to add, this is the second egg with a tiny tiny blood spot on the yolk, normal? Anything to be worried about

Yesterday I had a chicken lay an egg that had a wrinkled top. Good luck I hope your girl dose ok. i think first eggs can be a bit uncomfortable.

it certainly seems so! I hope she gets used to it soon, her first egg seemed very painful and she must have been awfully confused!
Is slight wrinkling on the egg normal?

I have heard my chickens and ducks making noise when in the nest box. I'm sure it's uncomfortable sure looks like it would be. Sometimes eggs will come out looking odd, wrinkled or with calcium deposits on them. All perfectly normal. Even blood spots I cracked one yesterday that had a blood spot in it. I just scramble them up for my dogs and birds.

I bet my dogs would love to try a fresh duck egg sometime soon! So would my family though, lol.
My ducks have had all the eggs fed back thus far, I want to make sure they get the absolute best while they get used to this. I figure it's a nice reward after the discomfort/stress of it too! Once we're all used to it, I'll spare a few eggs for other uses now and then.
My girls had this egg just recently, scrambled up, and it was the first time that they've seemed to love it. I think they're getting used to it and starting to enjoy it a bit more! And Dougie went absolutely nuts for the shell! It's like you told me about oyster shells, she took it like candy!

I'm just glad she's super resilient! A short while after laying this morning and she's back to herself! Running around and quacking to the world. The first time she laid she wasn't quite herself for the rest of the day.
