New to the forum, looking for quail info

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Beautiful aviary! ❤️ Button Quail are quite tiny and could most certainly drown in that water if they flushed up and flew in. So be very careful with the water, you might screen the top over. Other than that, they will love it in there! Quail love aviary style living, very close to their native wild cousins.

Hi Group,
I'm Anna and I live in Southern California. After having racoons eat the fish in our pond over the years, we did what we always wanted to do and enclosed our pond, turning it into an aviary.
We have a couple of budgies and bourke already in the house, and plan to add finch, diamond dove and button quail.
I am attaching pix of the area and would like all thoughts and suggestions on how the button quail would be happy with the aviary.
They will have a separate water source on the ground, but I want to make sure they will be ok with the pond. I have added logs and plants (you can see the plants better in the 1st pic).
Thanks,
Anna
also... the back right corner, we built a box for them to go into. I will be adding more ferns & logs
Welcome!
Is it possible to put some sort of screening over the pond?
Or maybe a ramp out would help.
I haven’t had quail near a pond or anything deep enough to drown in but my quail do enter every bowl of water they can get to (I give extra to try and keep some clean)
They also panic easily and are not always the smartest. So thinking they may enter panic and therefore drown.

Other than that they will love the set up it’s beautiful!
