New Year Block swap

ok, I need your expertise, other than the web and Hancock fabrics where can I find layer cakes? oh my walmart doesn't carry layer cakes.

Majack I'm glad you and fenrosie are faring well despite all that is going on around you, how are your parents doing? hope their feet are staying dry

katsdar you can get them at MSQ and I need to think of the other places, and let you know.
Did you see that they are a 10" square and you square them up to a finished size of 9"?

Layer cakes??????

I am assuming it has something to do w/ the video about the 2 block quilt. I looked on the video long enough to see what the quilt looked like and it was a 4 square block and hour glass block (4 triangles block), But what are "layer cakes"?

thanks so much Rustyhen, what is MSQ? Yeah I need a fast quilt and thought I'd buy a ready matched pack to short cut. and do a simple block. I'm stingy with my blocks that we have gotten from our swaps,

kassaundra layer cakes are usually 40 to 42 10x10" squares of fabric that are matched like a charm pack just bigger

Oh okay that makes sense thanks.

I found some Doctor Who printed fabrics, but they are $17.50 per yard or $10.50 per fat quarter!!!! I didn't even check for how much shipping on top of that

They had a Madame Pompedore, and a Starry Night w a TARDIS in it (in each of the pics) Those may be downright irresistible! Even at those prices!

See they do this to drive us crazy, and I forget how big a fat quarter is but that seems like a lot for one, it is not really that big.(fat quarter)

Usually 22 X 18 inches, roughly 1/4 yard'ish

Only instead of the whole width x 1/4 yard it is 1 yard that is cut in half lengthwise and widthwise (like a pie in 4 pieces) and one of those is a fat 1/4

When I did the math on the precuts, even fat quarters as to what it worked out to per yard I was shocked!

I figure for the same $ I can get at least 1/2 yd of a bunch of fabrics and just do my own cutting. I know I don't get the whole 40 different colors/patters or whatever, but I figure if I always buy just a little more than I need like even get 1/3 yard instead of 1/4 yard as the smallest size yardage to purchase, then over time I'll build up that great stash of >40 different little strips or whatever and better pinch my pennies. Of course if I win the lotto you can bet I'll buy some jelly rolls & fat quarters & layer cakes & a bunch of fun stuff ;> but til then I'm sticking to what is on sale, and a few extra cutting blades as needed.
