New Year Block swap

So what are the traditional New Year day menu's, here we have black eyed peas for good luck and greens for money and I can't remember why we eat the hog jowl, we do not eat anything with a claw ie: chicken because you will scratch back wards, so any other superstitions that you eat or do not eat on New Years day?

I had never heard about the claw thing. I am sooooo not superstitious at all, may be the only paramedic on the planet who is not. I don't like any of the traditional new years foods, so have never eaten them.

So apparently my iron has decided now is the time to give out :(
ACK
It is still getting hot, but not steaming, sure you can iron w/o steam, kinda sorta
I NEED steam...

I am very officially off schedule for these blocks, sorry, will be trying to catch up tomorrow...

@ Kassaundra, I asked my DH about the hog jowl and it is for prosperity hogs root forward so eating it you will move forward and corn bread is for gold, tho I have eaten this stuff every year I am still waiting on the bounty it is supposed to bring. or maybe it has, that would be a scary thought,

You are supposed to eat poor on new years day so you will eat wealthy the rest of the year is another take on the foods. I wouldn't consider myself superstitious just good eats and an easy cook day.

@FeyRaine we are all off target with this swap, Dec was just extra crazy this year.

I just finished my 10th

block. I'm shooting for 13, 12 to send and one for me. So far I have 3 color combos I'm going to have to do at least one more. I'm excited that they have all been done from my stash.

I never knew there were traditional foods, but seems quite obvious when I think about it. Ours is often delicious leftovers with fresh bread, as its a lazy day I tend to make a loaf stromboli style, so we can loll around and relax.

December is busy, a tough month for free sewing time. I dont know about the rest of you but Im always a bit stumped sewing to share with others, I want it to be perfect. Once the machine starts its rhythm it gets better, but till then Im dragging my feet.

My marathon sewing session is making a dent!!!!

It would probably go faster if I didn't take so many byc breaks!!!! lol

Keep at it Kassaundra!
My sister is coming tomorrow for 3 nights and as she lives in a "white" house we have had to have huge clean and tidy up!
As soon as she leaves the building I'm sewing!

I finished the blocks, I did 13, 12 to send and one to keep. I don't know what I'm more thrilled about finishing or the fact that I used all stash fabric. I ended up w/ 4 diff color combos. I hope you ladies like the block as much as I do.

I still have a big paper peeling party to do.

Wow sewing marathon least your done, I will start tomorrow one more day to relax. Your block from the ones you showed us are very pretty and will make a nice addition to our quilts.
