newbee whole oats

    I had bought a bag of whole oats ? What do I do with these my 5 week old chicks don't seem to care for them much.

    They may be a little big for them.
    Do they still have the hull on them or are they oat groats?
    I feed them as scratch in the summer but only to adult birds.
    You can sprout them and they may be more well accepted.
    If they start taking them, make sure they have appropriate size grit available.
    At the age of yours they probably still need #1 grit but they're getting close to the age for #2 grit. Grown birds get #3 grit.

    Yes they still have hull on. I guess I made a mistake getting this.Can i mash it up or cook it some how

    I would just wait till they are bigger. Whole grains don't lose nutritional content very fast.
    They don't generate as much heat when consumed as wheat and corn so I would probably store them cool and dry and by summer it will be a great scratch grain.
