Hi, I found this forum whilst googling for information on keeping Silkie chickens.
I live in Northwest Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District. We can get our share of rainfall here but we pretty much don’t get the extremes.
We have a small garden and so after years of listening to my OH badgering me, “Oh, chickens would be wonderful here” I caved in! As a young girl I’d seen a dog kill my dads chickens in the paddock so that kinda put me off for a while.
We were given 11 Silkie eggs and bought an incubator as a promised clocker didn’t materialise. The first chick hatched on the 28th June last year. A total of seven.....The Magnificent Seven! Or, as I used to say, ‘My Marauding Chickins!!!’ (Not misspelled)
I gave four cockerels back last week to the guy who’d given me the eggs so I’m left with my desired trio.
My question is,
Do I need to make a separate nesting box for my two girls?
I have a small coop with a nesting area off the main ‘room’ but as they’re not laying yet does that mean Penny and Amy need their own space?? OR, are they still a bit young to produce yet??
Thanks in advance

:welcome

Congratulations on getting your little Silkie flock! 3 of them can all use the same nesting box when it is time for them to start laying (they may even all want to squeeze in there at the same time).

Thanks for joining us and thanks for sharing photos!

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Aww what adorable balls of fuzz! :love Like NFC has said, you can probably use 1 box for all of them. If you notice a lot of squabbling later on down the road, you can add another. But give 1 a try first.

Enjoy your babies and welcome our roost! :)
