I'm not all that familiar with guns, but folks around my area say they will not kill an opossum or raccoon. Might need something bigger. If I were in the city limits, I would trap and then call animal control.

Yep...I used to leave a small bowl of corn out for them on the back deck by the lake so I could watch them come eat...there was a mama and two small baby raccoons. Now babies are grown and they are being a PITA! Don't see the possums much but I just found a pile of avocado's that the wind dropped and I see some claw and teeth marks...but that could be from either.

That is what I have to do. I have some traps so I will likely set them. I've got them liking the corn that I feed the ducks so they might just wander in. When we moved in the house there was a raccoon in the attic that we had to get rid of .... so I'm all set with traps.

That may be true, but you cannot fire guns in suburbia or inside city limits in most areas. And drowning is inhumane. So what then? I say, trap and call animal control.
