I avoid anything that's not really effective, and bad to inhale. Also, it comes from open pit mines, which are pretty ugly and unhealthy.

The feed store here promotes DE as a mite/lice controller ... Having read up on all what you all have to say, I do use Poultry Dust, Sevin & DE ... Permethrin 10 when I'm serious.

I use DE sprinkled around the perimeter of my house. Hubby hated it cause it left a white ring around the house but when we found lessening of the roaches, ants & crawly critters, he don't mind anymore.

In the Chicken House I sprinkle DE with PDZ in the shavings, I mix half/half DE with Sevin (we used it on chickens years ago) and half/half with Poultry Dust to dust the girls with monthly, rotating. My Daughter had a serious mite issue with her Silkie family, Poultry Dust and changing out the shavings did the trick. Keep telling her tis the season (she's in FL) to dust the family with PD monthly.

Well, we've been using it for years and no effect to us, our animals or our chickens. But, then, we always err on the side of natural and organic whenever, wherever, we can. My chickens aren't suffering from respiratory problems either. To each his own I guess. Peace!
