Newbie Yay!

That is so pretty, is that a rooster? Your feeding my budding chicken addiction because now I want one lol
Yes, its a male. Only it's not a chicken, it's a grouse. Tympanuchus cupido pinnatus. The pionners crossing the prairies referred to them as chickens and the name stuck.

Ahhh, I see! My newness is showing! But what a pretty bird!
It's ok, your not showing your "newness", a lot of people don't know anything about them or that they even exist. There's only 4 or 5 individuals in the States that raise Prairies, including me.

Just going to go with what's suggested for my intro:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New to chickens, inherited a flock with my home purchase!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently we have 9, 1 roo & 8 hens

(3) What breeds do you have?
Roo: Orpington (Guy Diamond & a handsome devil!)
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte (Henny)
1 Barred Rock (Marsha)
2 RIR (Coco/Sparkle)
2 Blue Cochin (Beatrice/Charlotte)
2 EE (Maude/Pearl)

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Surfing the web

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Baking, sewing, gardening, taking care of the kiddos, all things animal

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We share our home with 3 small dogs, a Yorkie (Annabelle), Chi (Neenee) and Chorkie (Fezzik), also our 18 year old cat Molly. We have a Rex mix named Rascal as well. We live in Kitsap County, Washington on our little 2.5 acre homestead. During the warmer seasons I sell my baked goods and fresh vegetables, plants and of course, eggs! My SO and I are both in our early 40's and have 2 kiddos, 1 girl age 6 and a new baby boy aged 7 months (as of now 1/6/18). Needless to say he and I are busy "aging" people (won't say old Yet) haha.
I've enjoyed and appreciated the kindness I've seen among the BYC community and can't wait to become a more involved part of it!
