If there was digging, very unlikely to be a cat. What kind of coop is at the other house? Could you just move it to yours? I know you said you have a broody hen, but it might be possible, if that is a secure coop, that it would be better and cheaper and faster to simply move it. Simply, she says, lol.

Get hardware cloth and use it to cover any opening bigger that 1/4 inch. If you see digging and they got in from underneath, you will need to dig a trench and bury a board connected to hardware sloth to protect the bottom.

It sounds like a weasel and they can get in by very small openings. If it is a weasel, you need to use snare traps for them.

Poultry/Chicken wire ONLY keeps chickens inside. It does NOTHING to stop predators, who can slice through it like butter. 1/2" Hardware cloth is the gold standard for fencing. Has to be securely affixed to frame no gaps. No plastic ties.
