Hi there...I have a chick that hatched last night ( day 22) and it had a clicking noise when it was breathing but it now has something bloody dragging behind it. I feel awful for it but is walking around fine. It only just hatched so it hasn’t had any food or water yet. I can’t seem to get the darn picture to load but it’s about 2.5 to 3 inches long and bloody looking.

Sorry about the pine shavings...I thought the hatch was done and put them in all the brooders. It was newspaper in there.

Hi Pinecone Chick!

Can you turn her over and get a shot of her buthole area? (weird request, I know) I just want to see what's going on back there before advising what to do.

It might be the "umbilical cord" if she is freshly hatched- don't try to pull on it, whatever you do, and maybe put her in a box with an old towel instead of shavings for now.

It hatched on its own but took all day...I noticed it unzipping around noon but didn’t get it open till about 10pm

Good job with the pictures! Thank you.
I think what we're looking at is unabsorbed umbilical cord. I would get her off of the pine shavings for right now and put her in a cup that she can't get out of. Then put her semi-under the heat lamp. It can take a bit more time to absorb and dry up, maybe a day more.

You want to go for a set-up sort of like this: (not my photo, but that's the idea, just without the egg.)

Try gently washing the chips off it. I can't tell if it is umbilical or vent. It almost looks like a vent prolapse. If it is a prolapse, you could try to gently reverse the prolapse but this chick might nit make it.
