News filming my yard from a helicopter!

They've been doing this for a while now. Haven't you figured it out yet? Google Earth/Maps does it everyday. And the photos get more clear and precise with every snapshot.

So. Freaking. Wrong. I thought there were such things as property rights and privacy! Geez. I think Google Earth is neat and useful, but they should only be able to display photos of people's yards with the permission of the owner.

I hope nothing bad comes of all this.

It sounds to me like they are trying to keep harrassing your family so that you will move. You might have your parents go and talk to the county or district attorney about them calling and wasting law enforcement's time. At some point, it really does become harrassment and they could be prosecuted.

Thats it exactly! Don't let those idiots get away with this!!!

Wait so your the family they are talking about that has 93 thousand dollars in fines? Is it your father who is talking?

Or were they just using your backyard as an example. I'm confused. lol. Either way it's wrong. I hope everything works out for you.

Yes that is my father, the fines are $250 a day since that August, but we a homesteaded so we can just remove the lien, that is why we are letting the fines pile up.

We can't really get the city's help with them because we a fighting the city, but the cops were very nice and they said that they told him if he uses 911 for noise again they would arrest him.

We had an issue with the next door neighbor last Thursday when one of the ducks we released was scared by a dog and crawled through a hole in that neighbor's fence that was facing the canal. The poor duck couldn't fly yet and was quacking up storm. Will went to knock on the lady's door and asked her if we could get the duck and she refused. So we had to call the police, and of course when he went in there, she hid under all the trash this woman has in her yard. She refused to let us go and get her. So Will had to cut a hole in OUR fence and try to get the duck to come to us, but since we raised her for release, she wasn't people friendly.

That woman sat in her window on the second floor and watched us and was LAUGHING. Then she let her cat out into the yard to get the poor duck. Poor thing ran to the front of the yard trying to get away from the cat, and in the front the woman has a 3 foot tall chain link fence, not 7 foot tall wood like in the rest of our yards. So I was on the roof on my house watching the duck and screamed at Will to run to the front of her house and grab the duck with the net, which he did, right before the cat pounced on her.

Some neighbors are just pure EVIL!

I'm sure I'm going to step on a few toes here but....I do feel for you and your fight to have chickens (and goats) but after watching the video you posted I have to say I somewhat agree with WHY the city has an issue with it. You mentioned you had 30 chickens? Your yard looked tiny to me in the video (I could be wrong, but it did) and in my opinion that is too many for that space and especially in a neighborhood. I also have 2 spoiled rotten nigerian dwarf goats that are totally pets but also thought your yard area shown seemed a bit small for them too. The landscaping was another issue....Xeroscaping is one thing, but not upkeeping it or at least trimming your yard to look nice in a neighborhood is just rude and an eyesore for the neighbors that do. To me the shots of your yard looked like it was all weeds (no color, no landscape pattern or any pride at all in it's appearance...you don't live in the country). I do believe you have a right to live like you want (to some extent) as long as it doesn't infringe on others and the yard (IMO) most definately does....as it DOES affect THEIR property value as well. As far as any smell....I have 9 chickens, several rabbits and 2 goats and a larger yard (not huge...but contained) and even I can admit certain times it does smell "farmy" (like after rains) and I am CONSTANTLY out there upkeeping their area. I just think you should take into consideration that your yard does not look as good as it could and you maybe should reduce the number of chickens you have for your space. Being in a neighborhood is hard with neighbors so close and lifestyles so different from each other but I do have to agree for that environment they have a point. (you are in a NEIGHBORHOOD...NOT THE COUNTRY) Sorry to be one to disagree with the majority here but the issue is not all about YOUR rights....your neighbors shouldn't have to live with an eyesore either.

Though I bulk at being pushed around by neighbors and love my freedom, this is one reason I live very much in the country with no near neighbors. Its a trade off and I do without a lot of the luxuries of town or city life because of it.

Unfortunately, the trade off for living in towns and cities is that one doesn't really have the luxury of keeping livestock and having a messy yard.

I would have to agree with the above post....to me the yard doesn't look big enough to house all those animals without some smell and fly problems, not to mention the noise levels of several goats and chickens. The goats alone would be enough to send a neighbor batty.

As for the landscaping? I don't see a lovely and natural landscaping choice...I see rank and ugly weeds that look to be a snake and rat environment. We have these kinds of landscaping choices in the country also and we just call it "lazy".

To me, people make choices to live in towns for a reason, as do people who live in the country. It makes no more sense to live in a town and try to have a farm, than it is to live in the country and complain about farm smells and sights. You really can't have your cake and eat it too.

I've done battles with Evil Neighbor before. They had an issue with our dogs (felt we had too many). So how did they handle it? By talking to us? With good communication? No... they called CPS.
