I have a young, maybe 2 month old cockeral that I think may have gotten into some nightshade but I want to check and see if anyone else has death with this and the symptoms were the same? we cleared some NS out of a bush yesterday and tossed it out of chicken range but I think some leaves may have fallen off, im not sure though.

My mother found the little guy on the ground yesterday afternoon, she said it looked like he was seizing but I didn't get there in time to see that. He was obviously having trouble moving his legs right, he kept falling over so finally i made him lay down(i moved him to the brooder). I went to check on him today, late morning, and he was on his side with legs outstretched behind him and some slimy stuff(saliva?) coming out of his mouth. I picked him up and he was still alive but not moving. I tried to fix his legs but it seemed painful to him so i laid him back down into the most comfortable-looking position for him.

Has anyone seem symptoms like this before? could it be Night Shade poisoning?
He has a best buddy that runs around with him everywhere, she seems perfectly fine besides being obviously upset over him right now, poor baby won't stop peeping and going in & out of the brooder. :(

I am sure he's past the point of recovery now but I want to make sure of what this is so i can prevent anymore from becoming ill. A friend is on his way out now to take care of the little guy so he won't suffer anymore.

anyone? I decided to not cull him right away and have started a flushing regimen with epsom salt dissolved into water. I am hoping it will help flush out the poison.

He's making noise now but still having tremors and i don't know if the noise is painful noise or if he's feeling better... he's still not mobile at all.

We had cleared a small patch of it and my mother tossed it over where the chickens couldn't go but apparently dropped some on the chicken side.

I closed him in the brooder for the night but he seems to be having more tremors, not sure if it's his body working out the toxin or him getting worse. I'm hoping for the best though, his little buddy was laying with him in the brooder half the day and looked really lost when it came time to go to roost. :(

I guess at this point I am only posting for future reference for others...

My little guy is still able to lift his head a little but the tremors are still going on and now his legs and even his toes are very rigid, just straight out behind him. and for some reason his legs are turning blue, almost completely blue now, I don't know if it's lack of oxygen getting to that area or some other reaction to the poison. I was planning on bringing him in the house tonight so I could check on him but it looks like it would be in his best interest to cull him now. I also think the noise he makes is from pain, he chirps every time i pick him up unless i do it with my hands completely flat where there's not really pressure on other areas.

I do think the epsom salt water could have helped if he was bigger or i started it sooner. It made him pass some poo and i can only assume some toxins with it but i think he was too far gone when i started.

I hope no one else has to go through this with one of their birds.
