Nightmare comes to life

@Fireflylane there are no words or emoticons that can convey how sorry I am for your loss and how saddened I am by the trauma you have endured since your accident.

I know that walk out to visit your babies was an important part of your recovery. in 2015 I had a tendon transfer in my left leg. My husband would push me out to my flock and they would climb onto my lap and tell me the latest news. That flock is gone now for a variety of reasons and life is not the same without them. But I made sure that they went to people who care for them.

Your babies are gone in a way not so different than your accident. You have buried them in your sunflower patch, which sounds like a lovely place to be. The flower heads may bend down, and shower them with seeds.

You did not fail your flock. You did not fail them! You did everything within your power to love them and keep them safe. People say that chickens don't " and that they only come running because we are a source of treats and food. People say all kinds of things that I don't agree with. My chickens are all different. Some are downright silly, some affectionate, some are divas. How do I know that I'm more than a food truck??? Because I can do surgery on their foot and they will still cuddle on my lap.

I hope that in time your visits to the sunflower patch will be ones full of happy memories, and that your flock will grow once more until it is filled with different fluffy butts. I thought that I wouldn't be able to start another flock. My husband convinced me to file for a variance to change the zoning for our property. 4 months later it was approved and I got to have a small flock. My neighbors and I miss my roosters, but the hens come running to the fence when they see the back door open, and that is when I feel that everything is right in my world.

You have 3 babies to spoil rotten! Get a few of those chicken diaper thingies and keep them with you whenever you can! ( And let me know how the diapers work!) Those 3 chicklets will be the start of your new flock. It never goes away, but it does get better and you sound like you will overcome this summer with the help of your friends and family, and your dogs and feathered friends.
:hugs

Look to the sunflowers, my friend.
Thank you so much yours brought me to tears for sure

I'm so sorry to hear of all that has happened. I'm so pleased he didn't get all of your chickens so you still have some fluffy bums to lighten your days a little but sorry for the loss of the others. I really hope you and your dads recovery goes well, sounds like it is a miracle you are both still here :)

It’s all about RESPONSIBLITY.
I would Never put my dogs in the back of a pickup ever! If I HAD to they'd be secured.
Let alone laugh as they went after someone’s else’s animals.
I VALUE my pets. Their SAFETY is my responsibility.
There have been ignorant owners who don’t value animals since the word PET was invented. Where I live we have the right to protect our livestock. We give each other warnings after all where neighbors (usually it’s only one neighbor) so if this neighbor doesn’t get his act together, fence his dogs if he DOESNT value them then they will get shot. If a dog went after my neighbors child I’d do the same damn thing. I’m responsible I value my chickens. I help my neighbors do the same.
So you say why should the dogs pay the price.....why should the chickens??? Some IGNORANT people just hafta’ Learn on a ignorant level. I’m so done

So fast forward a year. The irresponsible neighbors. Nurtured his dogs. Put up a fence. His wife now keeps chickens. His dogs did not get shot. There was no idle threat involved. All this....and the chickens are still dead. So you tell me
