Nite Guard Solar...Anyone have experience?

Does anyone have the Nite Guard Solar Protector? It is supposed to protect livestock, poultry, waterfowl, gardens and bird feeders. My vegetable garden and chickens are very well protected but I am getting damage to my fruit trees and bushes by deer. Money is too tight and I have to freeze and can everything I can grow. The Nite Guard Solar is a device that has a light that makes predators feel like they are being watched. It works at night and is supposed to stop raccoon, deer, owl ,fox, coyote, mink, skunk, opossum and more.

Deer deterents don't work and I've tried them all. If anyone has anything good/bad to say about this product I would appreciate any input. I'm hoping it can save my fruit trees and bushes and as a bonus give my vegetable garden and chickens a little more protection.

Someone else who has chickens told me that you can get the same effect much more cheaply by getting twinkling red Christmas lights and hooking them up to a solar panel. This would look like eyes to a predator.

I don't know about deer, though.

And I don't know if this works, because I have not tried it yet. I just sent for some from ebay. So we will see!

I've read several posts that say Nite Guard is pretty much worthless. A few claimed some luck with it if they moved it frequently.

Have you tried bear/cougar/whatever scent? There are plenty of deer around here, we see tracks, but for some reason they just don't eat stuff, I guess because they have plenty else to eat. What about a water sprinkler that is hooked up to a motion detector?

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!! It works as good as a second pair of teats on a boar hog.

I bought the nite guards in january after two raccoon attacks and losing 5 australorp pullets and a rooster,I installed 4 of the guards and three strands of electric fence around my coop,I haven,t had any more problems ,deer get used to anything after several days,or nights,the only sure thing I have found to keep deer out of my garden is a spotlight and a rifle,I have tried everything under the sun to keep deer out of my garden and nothing works much over two nights,wife and I preserve food during the summer,lots of it,we depend on our gardens for fresh vegetables.I realize the deer are just doing what they need to do to survive,but my garden crops are for me,not the deer,you can get permission from your local wildlife control to remove any problem deer from your property,,,good luck,your going to need it,

They are worthless. Save your money for traps or a fence.

I have had owls kill chickens with a niteguard light sitting right next to them on top of a pen.

I also set traps every night and the traps are in plain view of the blinking lights and I still catch varmints about once a week.

One thing that does work well is a good quality baby monitor. You can buy them at WalMart. Don't get the cheap one, get the one that has an extended range.
Once a varmint has a chicken you will hear the chickens cutting up and it will wake you up. Then simply grab your spotlight and your shotgun and hit the ground running.
Most times things get your chickens at night and you don't even know it.
But the monitor puts the action right in your bedroom.
The monitor gives you the nice peaceful sounds of the outside nightlife...and then you hear all heck break loose when terror strikes your chicken yard.
Try it.
But save your money on the niteguard lites.. they are worthless!
Here is a tip a friend shared with me that you may want to try.
Get a large Bug Zapper for your yard.

Um--a good dog will keep varmints away AND deer out of the garden.

Only problem is, he has to be able to get to the chicken house or the garden in order to protect them.

But if he can get to them, a good dog will keep you varmint free and deer free.

I agree with the dog idea. I have two. One I got for a $50 donation at a Saturday adoption day at Petsmart. The other I rescued from a lady that was hording about 25 dogs. You have to consider the cost of food and shots vs. the cost of fruit being lost. Or chickens and veggies in other peoples case. Also you can save a life and also add a loving companion to your family. They are always grateful for being rescued too.

i was wondering about this too. for the deer, i agree with the dog idea. we had deer in our yard untill we installed the invisible fence for our dog. he likes to "go" out at the back of the property where the deer used to come in. i made sure my garden was within the invisible fence, they never bothered it. (to keep the dog out of the garden, i surrounded it with the fence flags, he thought he d get shocked if he went in) Also my inlaws live across the street, their dog is chained, the deer ate everything up, Untill they put up regular electric fencing. the deer stay away from the garden.
