Thanks to everyone for coming to our biggest show yet!! Saw breeds I had never seen there before. Didn't get the final count - they were a few no shows - like my molting pullet!
But still arounf 1100 showed! Didn't get a chance to meet everyone, unfortunately, although I was all over the place. One of our BYCers, Gretchen Bare from Maryland, was airlifted from the show - she had a stroke and will be in Morristown Memorial Hospital for several days until they figure out what happened, so I was a little distracted. (Need a couple of days, I think, for an update about her) In the spring, if someone wants to try again to meet at a certain spot at a certain time, I'm open for that, but I tried it last spring and no one showed, even though I posted it here and with signs throughout the hall. Met Ann, Lynda, (thanks for the pic - NOT!) Marilyn, Gretchen, and Maria there. I hope i didn't miss anyone else!
Polish Princess, I missed you - how did that happen? Great vendors and auction - lots of sale birds. chickenboy - good for you! I got BB for my bantam Fav roo. Lyndas pic of the show hall must have been early in the day - later you could hardly move! I think BYC is the future of the fancy, and it can only get better from here! Thanks again!
And as April pointed out when I met up with her-I was spending more time in my black sweatshirt than my white lab coat. Too chilly to go running around in that thing for a few hours! I'm sure I blended in more with the crowd; there were alot of people in 'black sweatshirts'.
However, I do see myself in that second picture posted a few posts above me.
I'm the one in the 'white lab coat' on the right, mommying my birds. I'm so predictable...
Wow, I also saw that ambulance. Didn't realize that that might have been Gretchen. What a freak accident! I hope she has a quick and safe recovery.
Gretchen mini-update: Heard from Maria - they made it home around 4 am this morning with Gretchen's trailer. It appears that she may have no lasting effects because they go to her so fast. Of course, this is not definite, but at 1pm she was slurring her words, and when her husband spoke to her over the phone at 4, she wasn't. So it seems to be a minor stroke - they just have to figure out how it happened so it doesn't happen again.
Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that Gretchen is doing well (considering, of course). They are keeping her overnight again tonight, but she should hopefully be going home tomorrow.
I know there are a few folks that, at the show, I said I would contact privately with updates. If you see this, don't think I am ignoring you!! I've just been busy getting mine & Gretchen's birds settled at home.
Thank you SO much to Mary (mame1616) and everyone else who was so wonderful & helpful. It was so nice to know that, even far from home, we had friends! Chicken people are awesome.
