I think you're allowed in the show hall for coop-in at 7am. It's really not a good time for spectators as everyone will be rushing around getting their birds ready - it's courteous to stay out of their way. Judging starts at 9am. Auction "around" 1:30. Don't drink coffee, but you'll pass a Dunkin Donuts on the left side of the road just after Lafayette.

My boyfriend will have a beautiful calico silkie cockerel of mine for sale at sussex. He's listed on the byc auction thread as well if anyone wants to look at pictures

I think it's called a chinese auction? We did it last fall and it was fun...passed the time alot too. People bring bowls and trinkets to homemade baked goods and whatnot to donate, and others can buy tickets to try and win them (drop their tickets in the bag for their desired item). The tickets are pulled out and read off a few hours later (I believe last year it was 1 o'clock). If your ticket is picked then the item is yours.

Last year we won an apple pie and some guy paid us $20 for it...

He really loved pie...everyone left satisfied.

For poultry, vending really starts as soon as the place opens for the day, even before 'cooping in time'...If you're looking for a bird in particular, I'd get there right away. The best birds go fast. For the regular company supply venders (that have the bowls and waterers, supplies, etc) they also get there early, but they don't really run out of anything, so there's not a huge scramble.
