No Animal Should EVER Have To Live This Way

Oh what a beautiful Dobie. How could someone do that...it is just beyond me to imagine.

Thank all that's Holy that you took him home.

He could have been just lost. Have you advertised? Dogs do roam. Never-the-less I'm glad you are treating him well. We were shocked this last summer when we saw a huge hairy black dog covered with manure or something looking very sick by the highway. We thought it was a bear at first. Well when we came back from town he was dead, run over. Probably the best thing that could've happened for that poor animal. I have never seen a dog in such poor condition!

Well so far everything is going as good as you can expect. He has eaten very small meals every 4 hours. He is drinking like mad, which is wonderful and his bowel movements and urination are normal. Well his urine is colored weird but I am asking the vet about that tommorrow. He really wants to eat my chickens, but after a couple of stern sounding "no's" he just kinda shrugged them off lol. I think I am going to take pics every week and put them on this thread, that way we can follow his progress visually (sp.) Well, thats all for now

It's an awesome thing to watch a dog in really bad shape come back from it. I look at pics of Baggins (our Bassett) a year ago and am absolutely horrified. He weighed 40 lbs.

Now he weighs 60 lbs and is a healthy (heartworm-free!) happy dog and a total love-muffin. I hope your Dobie turns out as well--he certainly looks sweet. Keep us posted!

Make sure your vet scans him for a chip...

My best friend has a Dobie that could be that dogs brother, complete with natural ears and doked tail and she got hers from a nice reputable breeder in Ohio to boot.
Alot of Dobie breeders who show do ears and tails but if you want the pup for a pet you can pick to leave the ears natural (tails are usually done very early), this is what my best friend did.
We'll never know why he is the way he is unfortunately, but stranger things have happened. He could have gotten away from his original owner and been taken in by a third party who couldn't afford him or something. You never know.

Well are you gonna be his Furever Home? Dobies are the best dogs. They are very intelligent and very easy to train. They are very family oriented and protective of their family and property. I have had a doberman in my life from birth to present, I can't imagine life without one. We currently have 2 dobie boys, Both Rescued. Ziggy our black and tan was dumped like your new friend and Atlas our red boy was at a puppy rescue after his breeder had brought him to a vet to be euthanized for a clubbed foot. If you have any dobie questions or need help placing him PM me. There is a doberman rescue group here in NE Ohio. But if you decide to keep him you'll never be sorry you did.

Awesome!! I have never owned a dobe before but have always loved the look and overall temperment of the breed. I really do want him to be with our family and I guess the only way he will not stay here is if he becomes aggressive with my children, but I really do not see that happening. IF by any chance that does happen I will get in touch with you. Thank you

Dobies love kids. My boys are great with kids. They seem to recognize children as young fragile beings that they are to be gentle with. They are vigilent protectors of their families children. I would not refer to a dobie as aggressive, They are assertive and capable of agression toward imminent danger. They are very good judges of character in people.

I have to agree, all my dobes have been good with kids though they've had limited exposure and any time I have ignored their judgment on people I have regretted it. The only flaw I find in the breed is their tendency towards same sex dog aggression and the relatively short life span. I didn't get my first dobe until I was an adult, but I'll not be without one again.
