No Brooders, No Problem

You went into this knowing there were risks. But now you have an opportunity. If you are really feeling like egg be is not doing well then mark the egg and put just that one under her. See if she saves it. Also if you feel like you need a break you may have a willing baby sitter or egg sitter;-)
All sorts of options!

I've only had one broody hen hatch so far but she was much younger then your was, a barely laying pullet, and she was an outstanding mother.

My lucks not that good....even my dachshund abandoned her 2 pups and I had to raise them..lol (and I still have them)

I'm really hoping she is though...I really don't want to have to use the red light that illuminates my sunroom at night...not again

(though I will if I have to)

By the way, I am not sure I ever mentioned that my chickens are all house chickens...yes even the roosters

Wow. I've had to have some of my chickens inside with the freak southern weather and that's been a bit of a pain. How do you manage full-time house chickens?

You know funny that you mentioned that, I was thinking she would make a good babysitter/eggsitter, other than walking up to perfect strangers and offering them money to eggsit lol

So there are eggs A and B, and B is not doing so great and silkie wierdo spoiled chicken is acting broody? If this was me, I'd give weirdo spoiled chicken egg B, and continue on with egg A in the boobs. My gut is telling me though, to keep eggs A and B in the boobs and tend to weirdo silkie on her own.

Don't fix what ain't broken, even with egg B- the embryo is still kickin'. Plus, this is an amazing story unfolding and, I wanna see how it ends with the way it's going.

But I am not you in your house with your chickens and roosters. Do what you think is best of course.

First of all, I don't advise that anyone keeps chickens in their sunroom, it takes away the whole beauty of it, second of all...I don't advise that anyone keeps a rooster in their house because every morning is like a fire drill..lol and third of all, I don't advise that anyone sits down and eats half a bag of Jax at once...but that just happened too

Silkie weirdo spoiled chicken...so funny...her formal name is Buckbeak, her nickname is Buttcheek (don't ask why)

But seriously though, we plan on taking more pictures of the eggs, and posting this evening, hopefully, fingers crossed, everything's ok.

She must have felt all broody energy in the air or something. If she's really committed it would be a good way to take a break or a night off. Either way you'll know best.

Yeah she is so commited that literally, as we speak, I am hand feeding her strawberries... Lol
