Sorry about that. I just did not want to be left out. As you know I am expecting and a student and We moved over spring break. Yes My hens seemed to settle in but I have no permanent structure for their run. Then it keeps raining. I just feel I can't keep up.

I think we need a central location but not just central to everyone on the BYC in Norcal. It should be central to everyone that is considering attending. Soooooo

If the date is good please respond to this thread and give your area or county.

I am in East Contra Costa area. I would like to attend.
I know that everyone may not be near here and so we should decide on a location in which many of our Sponsors and most attendees are located. Then decide on what sort of places are nearby that will accommodate the most popular activities or requirements.

The park last year was great but parking could be a problem. Some county parks have great accommodations including camping fishing and horseshoes, etc but probably won't allow live chickens in the park. Some of the fairgrounds will allow live chickens and barbecuing have good parking but may have a rental cost.

I think our first step should be to find out where most people are located then work from there.

I am in Paradise, about 80 miles north of Sacramento, 10 miles northeast of Chico. I would like to go but I am not interested in going much further south than Vacaville or Elk Grove, which is 2 1/2-3 hours for me. I mean, if this is "northern CA" then why does it have to be so close to the Bay Area? A lot of us are so far up in Northern CA that SF is considered part of Central CA. just sayin'

It is true that the SF Bay area is not Northern California, with that said, locations will most likely be south of SF. How about SF Bay Area Chickenstock 2010?

How about a "Spring" chickenstock in the North bay and a Fall chickenstock in the South bay (maybe even at the beach)?

p.s. I am planning to be out of town on May 7-10th to attend a family gathering in Cleveland, OH.

OK, so I know you all are pretty set on East bay, but I thought I'd throw this out there. I spoke with my mother in law (Fellow Chicken Lover) and although before she can say 100% yes she is ok with this she has to talk to my Father in law tomorrow, but she thinks it will be fine. Anyway they have 110 acres in Kelseyville California (Clear Lake), with an equestrian center with a covered riding arena that is often used for events. It has plenty of parking, they just open one of the pastures and people park there (They actually have an event in July where they will have 2,000 people, so our gathering should be no problem, lol). They have a BBQ if we wanted to do that, And a pool if it's just too hot, lol, and a pond for any duckies to stretch their legs. Also they are next to Clear Lake state park, so if anybody wanted to stay the night they could camp or RV there no problem. Also they are about 2 miles from Konocti Vista Casino, where there is a very nice hotel. Plus my Father in law agreed to let my Mother in law have chickens, so she will be a BIG buyer!

Here's their website.

I will know more tomorrow, My father in law works in San Francisco, and goes to bed early, so she will have to wait until tomorrow to talk with him.

Hi Steffanie,

Last year's park was nice and also the time of day, it seemed close to most of you with a few us driving a ways.

I only have a flock of 3, so I don't have any birds to trade, but I might have some chicken items/collectibles?

June 5th looks open for me,

Hugh

If we're talking about a Northern California location, I feel like the Bay Area is pretty central, that's why we'd choose a location there. It's sorta the middle mark when you think about what is and what isn't Northern CA. Monterey to me would be the cut off for what I would consider "Northern". After that you're getting into Central and So Cal.

Here's a map,

It's pretty equal driving distance for those who would drive, there are many other transportation opportunities available (Greyhound, Amtrack, etc.) that all run to the Bay Area and there are many venues that could house a number of people. Plus families could make it a dual purpose trip and not only get to see peeps from BYC but they could visit the big cities like Oakland and San Francisco. There's lots to do in the Bay Area, so I think it would make the most sense. We'd probably have to host the actual chickenstock in the outer Bay cities due to zoning ordinances concerning animals and obvious space requirements that there are in the larger cities, but overall I feel anywhere else wouldn't be practical.

We leave for Alaska (our first ever cruise!) at 10:50 on June 5th, so I guess we'll catch up to you next time...we have family in Chico, so that's not too far if a North NorCal Stock in the fall happens to be near there.
Have fun!
Laurie
(and if anyone else goes from here and wants to ferry eggs I should have Barnevelder & Salmon Faverolles laying)
