Are there any chicken shows aka "poultry pageants" in Northern Ca. I'd like to go see one.

There were a few shown at the sacramento county fair about 2 weeks ago. There will be the state fair at the Cal Expo in Sacramento that will have lots of chickens on display (as well as other livestock) and that will be running July 14th to August 1st. Try a search on google for fair schedules for nor ca. you might find a few local county fairs goin on very soon, and most of those will have chickens.

The Alameda County Fair is coming up toward the end of the month. I wonder if they'd have many types to see there. I'll have to check it out.

Stanislaus Co Fair is Mid July, forget the dates, Id better check though, I have 2 kids showing livestock there...LOL My son is showing ducks too, he hopes to sell a Rouen drake and 2 Blue Runner drakes...

I didn't realize that chickens were actually sold at the fairs. I just thought it would be like a dog show with judging etc...

I think at our fair its not allowed, (no for sale signs on pens) but the networking and such is good for sales, breeder contacts, etc.

Well, it was about 8 years ago and was at the tail end of the fair when they were closing everything up. The birds he got were all outside in a pen (looked like mutts) and it felt like the owners were just trying to liquidate stock. This was years before I had chickens.
