no chickens yet !!! but looking for good quiet layers

My friend has house silkies and they are quiet- silkies aren't known for being the best layers, and often go broody (means they want to hatch babies) while they do this and for some time later, they stop laying eggs. Since you don't want a rooster their eggs would not be fertile. They would be going through broodiness and no result. Hard on the would be mama. I would say then to pick some other breed.

I'm glad you joined us!

For breeds, I would recommend the Wyandotte. My Wyandottes have been relatively quiet, docile, and productive birds. I really enjoy them.

Some breeds that I would reccommend would be Wyandottes, Easter Eggers, Orpingtons, and Australorps. My Wyandotes in particular tend to be docile, quiet birds that are very good layers. I'd enjoyed my Easter Egger nearly as much.

can i ask....im interested in getting buff orpingtons, & black australops. also interested in naked necked turkens because of their tasty meat. Are turkens quiet hens? my neighbors are close.
