no crow collars

We actually purchased a size small no crow collar for my daughter's Belgian Bearded d'Anver bantam cockerel. We have three cockerels, but we wanted to try it out on our loudest bird first. It didn't work out, we were really disappointed. It stressed our cockerel out a lot. It caused him to freak out and walk backwards and trip on everything. He didn't like it either he kept trying to take it off and he managed to get his beak stuck in the collar 3 times. We gave the no crow collar multiple tries and didn't like it. It did stop the crowing though, but it didn't look that comfortable. If you're going to try it out be sure to keep a close eye on your chicken. Also, the other birds pecked on the cockerel with the collar on. It made him "weaker".

Too bad it didn't work. We are now trying to find new homes for our 3 cockerels.

Thank you so much CheerfulChicken for your practical advise, unbiased opinions and honest observations in regards to the rooster 'no crow collar'. I'm very sorry that it didn't work out for you (and obviously, for your roo too), This, unfortunately, is exactly what I thought would happen. That once you put one of those collars on a roos neck, he would freak the frac out so completely, that it wouldn't surprise me if he just upped and dropped dead right before my very eyes. I obviously won't be purchasing one of these anytime in the near (or too distant either) future! I'm actually quite bummed out about them not working. I thought it seemed like a good concept and it could have benefited so many people who have roosters and love them and want to keep them, but can't.
Oh well, back to the drawing board. Thanks so much for your post!!!

I have to Japansse Bamtams and I put colliers made from Velcro and they work great they still crow but its so low that you can not hear them unless your in the pin.

Still waiting for my collar. I'm not at all impressed with My Pet Chicken, they don't answer emails, they sent me the wrong size which I returned and I'm still waiting for them to send the right one. I have to keep calling them and they just seem to be very incompetent.

@NHN ...I was just wondering if My Pet Chicken ever got back to you about your purchase of the No Crow Collar. I'm back on the fence again as to whether I'm going to order one, make one (I DON'T sew) or try to re-home the loudest of the loud. It's not that I don't want my rooster anymore, that is definitely NOT the case !!! It's more of a quality of life issue for me. I'm just having a hard time picturing him with it on, that's all...

...anyway, if you wouldn't mind, could you possibly post here on this thread when (or if...) you get your collar. I'm anxious to hear how your roo reacted when you first put it on and how long that reaction lasted.

I got my collar. Put it on him. First let me say it is difficult on a banty as their neck is rather short. I put it on loosely to let him get used to it. he ran backwards, in circles, was very distressed. I had heard this would happen so I let hoim try to get used to it. A few minutes later he had his lower beak caught in it. I ended up removing it so he could bed down for the night and will try it again. I have no choice. I cannot have him crowing.

I think they need to make a shorter version for bantams so they can't get their beak caught.

NHN, your descrption is exactly what happened to our bantam. We tried a few times and I finally videotaped it. We are going to return the collar and share the video if they want to see it.

I tried it on a australorp/jersey giant. He wouldn't crow. But he did a egg song and it was quieter. He was fine with it after 30 minutes. We had to leave, so next time we go back to our friends I will try it again, as I really want my own rooster for my flock.
