No egg song ☹️

This is true, and Roberta is a B**** lol

I have three that are laying (RIR, ISA B, and EE) and not one has done the egg song before or after an egg is laid. A couple have made similar egg song noises when spooked or startled, but it’s completely unrelated to laying. In my previous flock, I had a RIR that did the egg song almost daily but a PBR that never did it.

Some hens just don't do the egg song.
None of my three do. I figure this is the reason.

Very interesting article by Shadrach.

One night my husband heard a racket in the run. I ran down to investigate, and they were all "singing the song." And acting terrified, and looking at a spot in the nearby brush. I think it was a raccoon. The cockerel was very attentive too.

It’s been a while since I’ve read that article, I’m gonna give it another read, thanks!

Mine only do it if someone is coming in the nest box or she thinks going to brother them. I read somewhere they might do it to deter predators from their eggs 🤷🏼‍♀️ seems true for us any how

When my girls were younger - they weren’t as proud about laying eggs. I think they are just getting used to everything.

My girls are getting close to 10 months now and won’t shut up when they lay. They even sing for others when they are done.

I hope this happens to my girls!!

They have an alarm call that sounds similar to an egg song, so that's what you're hearing. That's why I still glance out the window if an egg song sounds "off," in case it's a predator call.
