No Eggs in 8 days

After we made new roosts they now sleep on it but we also close off the nesting box at night. I don't know. Im just getting more and more peevd every day. I like them and all, love watching the things they do, but they were supposed to LAY EGGS!

Just checked their "Vent" and it looks like they way is was described in another post.

Maybe the B*#%H sold me old hens???????  Because I'm doing everything right.  How can I tell if they are young 1 year 4 months as she stated or old????
. I wish I had the answer I feel bad for you I have even done a few hours research to try and help and the corections you have made should have done the trick ,,, I'm stumped only thing I can say that we have not tried is artificial light force a molt and try again

Hey Jmngrose...my wife just called me....my hens just laid TWO eggs!! According to her, the two are waiting at the door every morning, and as soon as the coop doors open, they rush out to the feeder and water container. They then eat and drink to their hearts content. At about 9.00 they go BACK into the coop.

This is where it gets interesting. According to the wife, they "bicker" for a good 20 minutes. She peeped inside, and saw one on the nesting box and the other walking around and around the coop complaining. Eventually, the complainer walks into the nesting box and starts to even walk OVER the one that's sitting. She had to leave then to tend to some baking.

10 minutes later, she goes to check and there are the two eggs. She's not sure if they are laid by the same hen, as the two eggs are in the same side of the nesting box. But the two hens are BACK outside in the run.

I wonder if, instead of free-ranging your hens, you kept them locked up in the coop with food and water? Would that help? I think I found the answer to my problem. We hadn't been getting eggs, because maybe as soon as they came out of the coop and into the run (which is a tractor), we closed off the run and moved it to another location in the yard for them to scratch and forage. Ane because of that, they weren't laying.

It seemed, at least for my hens, that they needed to get out, and then get BACK in, to the coop to lay. What are your thoughts on that?

Go to the for sale thread or start a new thread and ask any members in your area for 16-19 week old pullets for sale. And start over with stock you know is good to go I bet a fellow byc,er in your area can and will help and as far as some ones word it's buyer beware I guess

my girls were being bad for some time. I had them on layer feed and free choice oyster shell. They were so bad at eating eggs I built a roll away nesting box and that worked, I could get to it by a door on the back of the nesting area. 3-4 eggs per eight birds and this is going on year 2. Then someone layed an egg in the straw on the floor. now ever one is doing this and no egg eating. I am raising some new chicks I hatched just in case I need to cull the 1st birds.

Unfortunately she may have sold you old birds. One way to check for a layer vs not is to check the vent, it should be wide and moist looking.

No eggs for 28 days. I did find the remains of what looked like a tore up, really really thin egg shell. We watch them from our window constantly. And are now keeping them in the run for a while. To see if things change.

. After 28 days ? I think I would start over jm

We are setting up a chick area, for new one's coming in. And I am becoming more patient with these girls. I must for my own state of mind. I'm not ready to cull them. Or to even think of that...They are so stinkin cute to chill with and watch.
