No Eggs in 8 days

Do you have a rooster with the hens? If not add one if he goes to breeding them they are laying eggs or about ready to. borrow a rooster for a few days if you have a friend that has one. Often there are free rooster on CL but be sure there healthily.

Thank you. But we are not zoned for roosters. We are going to try keeping them in their hen house for a few days......

And still no eggs.

If the vent looks to be large then they may be eating them on you. I have some egg eaters that can eat the whole egg in no time. I plan to bring them one by one to another coop where no one eats eggs to find out who it is and cull them.

egg eaters don't last in my flock either but there are a few thing you can try 1 collect eggs frequently and add golf balls in there place some time egg eating starts with the natural curiosity of young hens and can be stopped when they relize the balls don't break and provide a tasty treat. 2 look at the nutrition of your flock often egg eating will occur when there is a dietary deficiency of the animal calcium being first on the list and protine being second. 3 this is the only other option you have to eliminate the problem is to cull the bird from the flock to the stew pot or send to freezer camp for some this is a harsh step and many people tend to not want to eat their birds and just put a add on craigs list or a sign in the local feed store and offer them for free or nearly free thinking that this will give them a new home without them having to do the deed you know out of sight out of mind kind of thing but I can assure you this is not the best option as you are simply passing your problem bird of to another and I can tell you no one wants to tend and feed a bird that is a problem as you your self have rid your flock of the issue but passed it off to another ,,, just my few cents good luck

Your right it will not make the hens lay eggs by adding a rooster. But if the hens are laying they will let the rooster breed or if they are about to lay. But in a no rooster zone

I don't think they are eating the eggs. A friend of mine brought over 2 fresh eggs from her flock. So I took out the ceramic eggs and replaced them with the real ones. They have been going in and out of the nesting box all day spending an hour or so in there, not eating the eggs.

And we got some chicks, so excited!!!!!

I have gone the full route with them. I always have oyster shell, feed them layer food and even went as far as adding some cat food to make sure they had all they needed and I put ceramic eggs in the nesting area.. This is year 2 so if I had 4 eggs per day I would be happy, some days are good some are no egg days but sometimes I see the wet straw or Little bits of shell. Last year at this time I would not have dreamed of freezer camp but after raising meat birds I can manage the flock and egg eaters go. But in chicken soap opera fashion they get a stay, one of my Giants is sitting on eggs for three days with the broody stare. This I did not see coming, I thought Jersey Giants never sat on eggs. But this eliminates adding a bird to that coop to find the egg eater, I have seen fights break out when new birds come in. I have 37 eggs in an incubator just over a week old. So I will hatch them and add them at night.

After 35 days, today I got an egg. Well sorta... On the inside was funky too. It had a very translucent yolk. Yesterday we decided to have fun with them, handled the girls and played chase the chicken. Maybe all the exercise worked an egg up. We shall see tomorrow

I just brought home 4 hens and a rooster and added them to my flock, they are about a year and a half and the rooster is older. I started a flock of 8 that will be 11 weeks tomorrow. I resued the 5 from a guy who could not keep them in the city anymore. He said they are good egg layers but have not seen one in a day. This part is new to me, could they stop for a while cause the move and the new home and new family. Right now when I let them all out of the coop the 5 stay in there while my 8 are out before the door hits the ground; Should I chase them out of the coop or let them decide when to exit?
