Does heat affect when my girls will start laying? They are 22 weeks old. Our temp highs here in my area of Texas is hitting 100 - 103. Will that make a difference? Only one hen has developed a nice comb and wattle. My girls are Barred Rocks. I have 18 hens and no one is laying. They are making nice clucking hen sounds.

You/They are right on track. Nothing to be alarmed about. Their age and development are close to laying but just not yet. Yes heat can and does play a part but the bigger obstacle is just their just not ready due to development. You will see the changes in the size and redness of their combs. Squatting and getting louder and interest in their nests are all signs.

Wish you the best.
