Only 2 of my hens are currently laying. One just started a couple of weeks ago and was laying every day (small eggs but was a reliable layer) the other is a retired 2 yr old hen who was laying about every other day or every 3 days (nice lg eggs!)

Now I haven't gotten but ONE egg in the last week! What's the deal!? it is getting colder around here and I think the older girl is starting to molt, but what's the deal with the little one? How do I get more eggs? (with out using a heater)

It's that time of year. Moulting will affect egg laying,as well as the shorter daylight hours. Good thing is that soon after 12-21,as the daylight hours increase,so does egg production. I can see a difference after just a couple of weeks.

interesting. I know egg production would decrease but I had no idea I wold only be getting an egg a WEEK from the hen that was laying an egg a day
