Wait
a sec - I'm confused

You said your chicken hasnt eaten/drank in only 4 days - but your post above is dated 3/30/09 and in it you say the same thing you're saying here - So these are the same pictures you've posted on 3/30 - and your chicken hasnt eaten or drank ?

ETA: My apologies - your post reads 3/30 - could have swore it read 3/20...... so I CORRECTED THIS POST..

I am curious though... you mention she was fine on 3/27 and was laying, eating, and drinking normally if this is the same Leghorn you mention you just got. So... I"m still confused a little bit here.

Can you enlighten us a little bit more? Can you take new pictures of your girl? Again there are so many things that are unclear.

I'm going to assume this post is serious, and I'm hoping she's attending to her hen.

ginbart - BYC is experiencing issues with changing words today (April Fool's Day!!!). Are you asking what is e g g laying age? If so, that varies depending on lots of things, but 24 weeks is the average age.

As will I - which is why I edited my post above...other than for an error on my part.

I hope the chicken will be okay. (gosh, what is up with words being dropped?) Ugh...

If the symptoms you describe are happening (as in , not a joke), this bird needs immediate medical help. Please - AVIAN VET - if you can.

Everytime we type e gg, it comes up as rooster because today is A pril F ools day. I just wish it wasn't so on the posts with people needing help. It makes it a bit confusing for people asking for help or trying to give it.

To the OP, is it possible that the hen is just broody and she may have eaten when you didn't notice?

Ok now I see. Thanks

I think this is a serious post, as she also posted for help for this bird a day or two ago. She said it was a recent rescue, unknown age. It does not sound broody, as these girls will still eat/drink/poop- just not as often. They can stand, and if you take them out of their box- they eat/drink/poop and run back to the box making angry and insulted sounds. Also the comb color looks very dark/shriveled- even more so than a hen out of lay.
In reply to the poster- if you cannot take her to a vet, and you cannot do intensive home supportive care, as sad as it is- you should cull her, as she will likely die soon. Without knowing what is wrong with her- you cannot properly support her through it, and it is very likely that she has something not easily treatable- or not treatable at all.
Your bird has vague, but severe signs- (not eating/not drinking/not pooping/purple comb)= severe illness, but could be one of many problems- some you can detect at home with a good inspection (heavy lice/mite infestation, prolapsed vent, respiratory infection, impacted crop ect), but you cannot find internal infection, heavy worm burden, tumors, heart failure, ect- and neither can we from looking at your photo.
In any event- not drinking for 3-4 days = death very soon for any avian or mammal. You need to take action= get local live help with your bird, or cull.
