No No No No No No!!!!

Photograph, art work, written work articles etc... are all automatically copyrighted to the creator. It doesn't have to be registered, it doesn't have to have a c mark.... If you didn't take it, make it or write it... it's NOT YOURS!

though I haven't read the bill yet myself... if it is to protect copyrighted stuff....... I'll be all for it! I'm having a heck of a time with a piece of art work I did.

I am dealing with this right now. and yes, most websites have DMCA's that can be filed... and boy am I filing... 20 of them in the last two days!!! I have one person who I filed one against previously, though it's removed from her site, she knows it's mine, not only is she claiming to design it, but she's selling it to people...and it's MY art work.

So that is stealing money from me. I don't have enough money to go after her, so she continues to pirateize my work... but if this law makes it easier for me to go after her - count me in!!!

There are actually photos in the public domain that are copyright free for several reasons and are useable to everyone. But, most photos are protected, you have to read the fine print. Also, there are photos in the "commons" that were donated for public and commercial work, but have to be used in the way the owner requests (such as attribution requirements).

Just be careful because sometimes photos are miscategorized. I usually look for something in writing with the actual photos that says it's free to use.

It doesn't matter. They are automatically copyrighted when they are produced. Did you read the link I posted? Every single image in the world is copyrighted (unless the person that took it is deceased).

Just another way for the government to stick their nose into peoples business for their own personal gain. The government has too much control as it is and we the little people usually suffer for it. I agree you shouldnt be able to steal by downloading something that should be paid for ie: music, videos. But with the government it wont end at that. I could say alot about our government but I wont go into that rant. Lets just say if the government wants this they will get it regardless what we want.

Yes, I read this, however, there really are photos in the public domain, seriously. For example, many photos that are taken by government employees in the course of their work are in the public domain and copyright free. If you dig through the copyright law and not some lawyer's page, you would find that information. I am involved with this as a part of my livelihood. If I use photos that I'm not allowed to use, I would be in big trouble. You have to read the fine print and it actually has to say that you are free to use it the way that you want to use it.

And, by the way, even if the person who took the photo is dead, it still might be copyrighted.
