Nice day here, so let my Game cock and 10 hens out to run today, went to town to get something to eat.

Got back to find a dog eating my gamecock, and 2 dead hens.

Could not get to my guns in time.

Only have 42 A of land here and can let my birds loose because of the $%#&* dogs

I wish they would start locking up Dog OWNERS who let their dog run loose. Maybe a year in jail would get them to keep their dogs up.

I feel the SAME way! I don't understand why some dog owners think that dogs NEED to run....YEAH sure they need to run...WHILE ON A LEASH OR IN A FENCE....SUPERVISED.

That is just horrible. I agree with you..there should be more laws about owning a dog...we don't have enough money in scioto co. to take care of problems like this. We have to take matters into our own hands. We had yet another stray FEMALE dog..I am sure she is not fixed..and she doesn't belong to anyone around!!! Can you believe that. We have spayed a total of 5 females that have came into our hollow. We had a male lab stray come into our place and killed my year old tom. Makes you sick, don't it!!

I really hate what happened to your birds. I know you take a lot of pride and care of your birds. I am really sorry. DJ

Was the only gamecock i had, i use the gamehens for setters. He would fight anything to protect the hens, and still the biggest pet.

The other hens was in the trees, he was next to the 2 dead hens, the dog was eating him when i got home......

Have had fawns and peafowl killed by dogs running them, they were in pens the dogs didnt get in, but still killed them.

I am done, if i find this dog owner, if a he. He will be getting a good a** whipping from me!!!!

Lines have to be drawn sometimes. Some people don't realize or simply don't care what there dog is doing or where it is. We keep a rifle ready for any predator. My boys have even sat on the roof of the garage and hide behind hunting blinds. They killed a coon and a fox in one evening about 3 minutes apart. They were in around the coops and had killed 23 chicks the night before. We just had a fox carry off one of my BO hens in day light. So now we keep a rifle in the garage unloaded, but slugs are close by. OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN We have invested a lot of time and money in our birds. So have you. You need to do.. what you have to do... to protect your birds. I wish you all the luck in the world in resolving this. DJ

I alway love dogs before even raised a few breeds, now I am at a point I HATE THEM, learn to deal with killing all the wild predators.

Like to hang the dead chicken around the dog owners neck for a few week, Dad alway said that how to break a dog from killing chickens. Maybe that would work on the dog owner!!!!!

Now I have to go to work, and worry if that dog will be back, and kills some of my high dollar peafowl, or that matter any of my birds. Dont think he can get in the pens, but seen them scare to the point they break their neck.

SORRY, but I am madder than a wet hen!!

I'm sorry that you lost your chickens, but please try to keep in mind that there are dog lovers/fanciers on these forums. Not all dogs are uncontrolled killing machines and not all dog owners are irresponsible and thoughtless.

I love my dogs and I like my chickens--I can't say I "value them equally," but maybe after I've had my birds for a few years, I will. I feel awful when I read about people who have lost their beautiful flocks to someone's dogs, since it's hard to see the lines being drawn on top of the losses that people suffer. As bad as it is, though, I wish that people would keep in mind that, just as they take offense at their wonderful pet chickens being dirty, disgusting, or disease-carrying, dog owners/fanciers take offense at excessive generalities being made about our pets, too.

That being said, good luck in dealing with the dog that did such damage to your flock. Best wishes and take care.
