None of my eggs hatched *update on page 4*

To be completly honest, I just saw the yolk - with no blood and then just tossed it out. I have no idea when they quit, or even if they were ever fertile. Those two I was questioning if they were or not. Most quit as a tiny (very tiny) little ball though.

Yes, no point in complaining, nothing I can do about it. It does suck, but other chickies will come

I will keep trying. I felt like giving up at first, but I decided that it wasn't worth giving up, because I definitely learned from this experience. And the next hatch should go much better.

I just finished my first hatch. 7 out of 17 hatched. They were all alive on day 18 when I candled. I used and egg carton with the bottoms cut out because they rolled around to much on the wire. I tilted them sideways as much as I could. I wonder if using the carton is what went wrong with mine?

I have new eggs coming this week and and trying again! Good Luck with your next batch.

I don't think the carton method could hurt anything...I like it, and it seems to work well...I just hatched my 1st shipped Ebay eggs...most looked great a little way along, but 2 hatched and only one made it...I have about 80 local eggs hatching right now and 90% are hatched or in the process...shipped eggs are just a huge gamble...you don't know how beat up they got in the mail!

Hmm. I guess it just really depends. Once my chicks grow and start laying eggs, I will try the carton method with the eggs I get from them. Just don't want to risk it on the eggs I am buying.

I know it is different with goose eggs, but I noticed that the carton method put my goose eggs WAAAAAAAY too close to the heat source and that can really mess with the temperature. I couldn't stop thinking that I was doing it wrong and took them all out of the carton. I guess it would work well for chicken and some ducks, but with geese I don't think it is a good idea.

Anyone hatch goose eggs in a carton in a tabletop bator?

I have never used a carton. I was told they hold moisture in the eggs and keep them from breathing properly. Also, have you ever seen a chicken, duck, or goose stand their eggs up on end.

I have a egg that is cracked that is starting to hatch now. I am assuming it is due to the fact the membrane did not break. It just comes to show you cannot give and I just do everything that a Mother Hen would do.

Anyway, what does the egg carton do for them and also the standing them in the egg carton on end? Mine have a 98% (now) hatch rate just by them being in the same position they would be in a nest. I am even doing better than my hens that are sitting on eggs. Theirs have been rotting.

Well my egg that had a crack (said had because it the crack is now gone) hatch. I really thought I was going to lose her. But a lot of prayers, she made it. I have had 2 hatch, 2 almost hatched and 1 starting to pip, along with another 20 or so on the way. So I am at 5 and counting.

I am going to have a test for everyone Sunday.

The auto turner that I have hold the eggs upright, just like a carton would. If you have enough ventilation holes in the carton cups, I don't see any difference between that, and using the type of auto turner I have. Mine's the old style LG turner, BTW. And I thought tilting the 'bator, rather than the carton, is very clever, to avoid each end taking turns being too hot. I may try that some time, myself, when I have more than one 'bator going and not enough turners.

What breed were these eggs? Some have a much higher no-hatch rate than others, due to a prevalence of lethal genes, and/or fertility problems. This may not have been due to anything you did.

Better luck next time. I understand how disappointing a poor hatch/failed hatch is. I had a single live chick hatch from a batch of shipped Dorking eggs last year. My expensive little chicken. Good thing she turned out to be a hen.

I had silkie and show girl eggs. I was thinking that is would be just like a turner...I'll try it again next spring to see if it works that time.
