Well, did you? Yes? No?
I will be trying tomorrow! We live in the city of Chicago, where there aren't very many "nice" walmarts. We have one about 20 minutes up north that everyone generally refers to as the "Ghetto
walmart" lol. Kind of in a bad neighborhood with some skeezy looking people peddling out front. There is a nice Super
walmart about an hour (sometimes less) away down south in the burbs where my family lives (and conveniently right by a feed store). I needed to go to both the
walmart and the feed store, so tomorrow I'll be making a day of it. I will let you know how it goes!
As for fly traps, I currently have been using one that has the attracting blue light with a glue paper strip behind it. It helps catch a lot of them, but sometimes it can get over whelming in the duck's room. I especially hate it when the local spiders (You wouldn't believe how many live here in chicago, we have a famous "Lake" spider that lives out on all the boats on the lake! ewwww!) take up residence in the duck's room to catch all the flies. We try to leave the spiders alone to do their business, but they definitely freak me out just a bit.
Luckily, the vet has okayed for us to use DE in the ducks' wet food. If we mix it with cottage cheese, yogurt, or in water with some melted brine shrimp cubes that we normally put in their nightly fresh treats, if should still have the same effect. The flies will try to lay eggs in the poop, but their poop will contain the DE and will tear up the eggs before they can hatch. Hopefully this still works... that or it gets cold here in chicago soon so we don't have to put up with the summer time flies!
Norie did very well today! She wheezed only a little when she got a little excited to see us in the morning. That and when she hears her ducky flock calling out for her. Otherwise she took a nice bath and cleared her nose well and preened well. She was also a very good girl while I had to push the meds down her throat for her. I placed a blanket over half of her "special pen" so she can hide and that seems to have made her very happy. She's been very loving despite her tribulations and has been walking up to us when we enter her room to be petted. She's growing even more attached to her dad Joe, aka Duck_feeder, as he's the one she's imprinted on.
