So yesterday my barred rock laid her first egg(and another one today too). Then I found one in the duck house--due to age and coloring undetermined the Khaki.

Just now I found another egg in of all places, their pool. I had to do a double take. Never thought to look in the pool that is filed with water. So it's more of a white color and I'm going with the Peking. She is 4.5 months old.

First thought is all those stories I've read about eggs missing or lack of eggs and my first thought was well those are probably at the bottom of the pond...

Has anyone else had a duck lay an egg in their swimming pool? Sunny(the Peking) has always been a special kind of duck.

Once with my school at our show display we had our two Pekin ducks Donald (drake) and Hildegard (duck). Our display was about corn and it was called: an a-maize-ing display or something. I can’t remember if it was the first or second day of the show but I was sitting with the ducks and Hildegard layed an egg in the water.

I have found eggs in the pool, next to the pool, out on the ground just where ever they happen to be when the urge hits them. Totally normal maybe start letting them stay inside an extra 15-30 min in the morning so they get use to laying inside their house? Sometimes that works.

Today and I think it was her again dropped one next to the pool. I was working out there and completely missed it. I turned around and it was there. There was one in the house this morning, so I think the khaki is laying inside and the Peking outside, but the eggs look similiar. I thought I read that Peking is white but the khaki is not.

When I read the title of this thread I giggled. I thought to myself, a NORMAL place for ducks to lay eggs?! There isn’t any. They have no shame, just plop them wherever. :lau And Pekins more so than other breeds. I can tell which one of my ducks is likely to go broody based on where they lay their eggs. If they always make a nest then lay in it, they are more likely to brood. If they plop them wherever they are walking, they don’t brood as often. It may just be a coincidence.

When I was a kid, my brother used to do yard work for a neighbor that had ducks and a small pond in her backyard. One of his duties was to fish the duck eggs out of the pond every week. There were always some in there, EVERY week.
Man I’d really like to see how he managed that!:lau
