Normal vs abnormal chicken poop

Hi

I agree that it is probably shed intestinal lining, but I would recommend keeping some Corid on hand, just in case they take a turn for the worse and need urgent treatment.....almost always at a weekend or some other inconvenient time when vets and shops are closed. Coccidiosis can kill quickly. Corid is one of those things that is useful to have in your emergency poultry first aid kit. I have a small bottle sold for treating pigeons rather than the large cattle packs that many seem to buy.

I would also stop giving them medicated chick starter. The medication gives them some protection from Coccidiosis as chicks but it is also a thiamine blocker, which means that your chicks may not be getting all the nutrients they need to grow healthy. In my opinion, it is better to get them off medicated feed after the first 6 weeks if you use it at all and have Corid on standby to treat them if necessary. I would change them to an unmedicated flock raiser or grower and have oyster shell available for when they start laying.

Regards

Barbara
